The next release will be Granular 2.0. Code-name for this release is pending and yet to be decided.

Major Chages

  • KDE 4 will replace KDE 3.5
  • Change of base from PCLinuxOS to, maybe, Unity + Mandriva
  • Complete artwork change; to be based on a more lively color theme
  • (maybe) Logo change

Packages

To be added packages include:

  • Packages needed by certain Granular Control Center modules for functionality. For example, "Network Sharing > Share drives and directories with Windows systems" requires "samba-server" installed to get itself working.

Features/Functionality

To improve the functionality, these features need to be included:

  • Full wireless support (ndiswrapper, madwifi, etc.)
  • Better hardware detection
  • Full VMWare & VirtualBox support
  • An update program - packages+security (Ubuntu-like)
  • Virtual RPMs in repository to install collection of packages that provide a certain functionality - codecs, DEs, etc. [source]

Issues/Bug fixes

The following issues need to be taken care of in the next release:

  • Slower boot time
