Introduction
Installing new softwares and applications (apps) for functionality, entertainment, or just for fun is an everyday task. Every user wants that his/her system allows an easy installation of new apps.
Luckily, like everything in Granular, installing new softwares is also very simple.
Installing Applications
- To install a new app, go to Menu and open Synaptic Package Manager. If you are logged in as the standard user, you'll be prompted for the password of the root account (equivalent to administrator user).
- After you have entered the correct password, the main interface of Synaptic Package Manager will load and it will take a few seconds to get fully initialized.
- Click on the Search button and enter the name of the app you want to install. If that app is in the repository, some search results will be displayed related to it.
- Select a package name to view its description in the lower pane to confirm you are installing the desired application.
- To install it, right-click the package name and select "Mark for Installation". On doing this, along with the app to be installed, all the related dependencies will be automatically marked for installation.
- Click the Apply button above to finally install the app.
The desired app with all its dependencies (if any) will be downloaded from the repository and installed without any user intervention.
Installing Patches
Patches are small applications meant to enhance performance or fix any bugs in your Granular installation. Team Granular release patches from time-to-time, depending on the situation. The patches are released as downloadable files with a .grl extension.
- To download a patch, check here: http://www.granularproject.org/packages/category/patches/
- To install a grl package, follow instructions over here.
